Visiting the Estancia Rio Cisnes, near La Tapera, in December, is fascinating, because you can observe the sheep shearing process. Itís amazingly fast! The esquilador (shearer) supports the sheep against his body and begins by cutting the wool on the sheepís stomach, then the extremities and finally, the head and neck area. For a skilled esquilador, the entire shearing lasts no more than a pair of minutes and the sheep is on his way. Within a month, the team of 12 esquiladores shear around 60 thousand sheep! If you want to observe, coordinate with the Estancia in advance.
